Why Should My Kids Do Basketball Classes?

Looking for a new activity to get your child involved in? Basketball is a fun sport that boys and girls can start at a very early age. Learning to play basketball helps children to stay fit, healthy and happy, while teaching all sorts of skills like playing basketball (that one’s obvious), working in a team, making friends and perseverance. Getting your child started young won’t just keep them healthy and engaged now – it will be a foundation for them to stay active and succeed in all sorts of ways later in life.

Here are just some of the reasons your kids should do basketball classes:

Improve Their Physical Fitness

Children aged 6-17 need at least one hour of moderate exercise each day, and should engage in vigorous physical activity 3 days per week (according to the CDC). Learning basketball is a fantastic way to incorporate exercise into your child’s routine, and will contribute to their overall physical health and fitness. Kids can play basketball during school terms and during the holidays (with our basketball camp), so you can rest assured that all their exercise needs will be met.

Increase Their Motor Skills

Learning to play basketball involves all sorts of skills like pivoting, dribbling, throwing and catching. Starting basketball at a young age improves kids’ motor skills by encouraging them to use all their major muscle groups. Basketball also improves hand-eye coordination, flexibility and endurance. Whatever your children choose to do when they are older, all these skills will serve them well long into the future.

Boost Their Psychological Development

Learning to play basketball doesn’t just enhance physical health, fitness and coordination – it also boosts psychological development and mental wellbeing. Playing in a team helps children to make new friends, learn about social dynamics, develop conflict resolution skills, get to know their strengths and weaknesses, and experience the camaraderie that comes with being part of a group. Teamwork also improves communications skills and problem-solving and introduces kids to the benefits and challenges that come with a dose of healthy competition (kids will learn that winning and losing are both parts of life, how to be a good sport and that perseverance pays off). Basketball will teach your children social skills and coping strategies that will be useful in various parts of their life – at home, at school, at work, and in their relationships.

Build Their Confidence

As we have said above, playing a team sport comes with all sorts of mental and physical benefits. The challenges that basketball lessons provide boost confidence, improve self-worth, increase self-esteem, and encourage children to develop all the character qualities they will need when they face challenges down the track.

Let’s Get Started!

Basketball isn’t just about learning to play a new sport or getting exercise – it’s also about the joy that comes with meeting new people and working with others. Just think of all the new people your children will meet, the new skills they will learn, the way their mental and physical health will improve and, most of all, all the fun they will have! If you’re ready to enrol your children in basketball lessons, just sign up for one of our classes today! We have classes for kids of all ages and abilities. What Your Kids Can Do These School Holidays

The school holidays aren’t far away, which means now is the perfect time to start thinking about how to entertain your kids over the break (we know, it’s not an easy feat). Although it can be tempting to let the kids have as much screen time as they want so that you can get a break, the holidays can also be a time for you and your kids to try new things together and get active. Here are some ideas for school holiday activities that will keep your kids (and you!) entertained:

Take Them to a Basketball Camp!

Okay, we know we’re a little biased with this one. But our holiday basketball camp is the perfect fun and structured activity to keep kids active and engaged. Our Little Boomers Basketball Camp is suitable for children aged and is perfect for everyone from total beginners through to intermediate players. Our basketball camp covers all sorts of skills, including dribbling, shooting, passing and more (we split the children into age groups to ensure that the activities suit their ability level). Our camps are run efficiently so that you can rest assured you will get the best value for money – but don’t worry, our camps are also heaps of fun for all the kids (and the coaches) involved. If you want to keep your children active these holidays, leave it to the experts!

Go Out & Explore Nature

The great outdoors offer so many different choices for activities that will have children entertained for hours. If you want to stay close to home, you could go to your favourite park and have a picnic (don’t forget to bring the frisbee or cricket set!). If you’re willing to drive a little further, why not go for a bush walk, go fruit picking, go bird watching, visit a hobby farm, head to the beach, or visit a place you’ve never been before and get exploring? One great way to keep your kids engaged during outdoor activities is to get them to do a treasure hunt along the way. Just tell your child what they have to look out for – this could be leaves, shells, rocks, flowers and anything else they will find along the way – and give them a little bag to store their collection in. Then, when you get home, they can use the objects they found to make a collage or create a painting.

If you want to get your kids outdoors but don’t want to leave home, you can make the most of your backyard. Why not introduce your child to gardening, and create a vegetable garden together? Or, if you want to get them moving, why not set up an obstacle course in the backyard? You can use furniture that you already have for this (they can duck under chairs and climb over tables) or you can buy some items like cones, hoops or rope ladders. Whatever you choose to do, being outside as much as possible is a perfect way to spend the school holidays!

Have Fun Indoors at Home

Once you’ve had your fun outdoors, there’s plenty you can do at home. Do you have a cupboard that is full of board games you rarely play? This is the perfect time to play them! Board games are great because they encourage focus and concentration, and get the whole family involved. If you want to add an extra challenge and take ‘boardgaming’ to a new level, why not help the kids to create their own?! You can come up with an original game together, or they can create an existing game like snakes and ladders. If you need some inspiration, the internet has all sorts of DIY board game suggestions.

Staying in also offers endless opportunities for arts and crafts. You could make a family tree, do colouring in, make jewellery, have a paper plane flying competition, make dream catchers, learn new skills together (like knitting, tie dying or origami) or use the objects you found on your walks to make found-item artworks!

So Many Options, So Little Time!

The activities listed above are just some of the thousands of potential school holiday activities you could do together. Just writing this, we’re actually a bit jealous about all the fun you’ll have together. If you’re keen to get your kid/s involved in a new activity where they will get plenty of exercise, learn new skills and make friends, don’t forget to book in for our kids basketball camp!

The Pros and Cons of Owning a Franchise

If you’re considering becoming a franchisee, you’re probably wondering what the advantages and disadvantages of owning a franchise are. While there are many benefits to owning a franchise, there are also some potential drawbacks that you should be aware of. Here are some of the pros and cons of owning a franchise:

Pros:

  1. Established brand. One of the biggest advantages of owning a franchise is that you’ll be able to tap into an established brand. This means that you’ll have access to a proven business model, as well as a built-in customer base and a recognizable brand name.
  2. Support and training. When you own a franchise, you’ll receive support and training from the franchisor. This can help you to understand the ins and outs of the business, as well as provide guidance on how to run your location effectively.
  3. Turnkey operation. Franchise businesses are typically turnkey operations, which means that you’ll receive everything you need to get started, including equipment, supplies, and training. This can save you a lot of time and hassle, allowing you to focus on running your business.

Cons:

  1. Limited autonomy. One of the biggest drawbacks of owning a franchise is that you’ll have limited autonomy. The franchisor will dictate many aspects of your business, including how you operate, what products and services you offer, and how you advertise.
  2. Ongoing fees. In order to maintain your franchise, you’ll be required to pay ongoing fees to the franchisor. These fees can include royalty payments, marketing fees, and other charges, which can cut into your profits.
  3. Limited scope for innovation. Because franchise businesses are typically very structured and standardized, you may have limited scope for innovation. This can make it difficult to differentiate your business from other franchise locations, which can make it harder to attract and retain customers.

Overall, owning a franchise can be a great way to start your own business and tap into an established brand. However, it’s important to carefully consider the pros and cons before making a decision. By weighing the advantages and disadvantages, you can make an informed decision and choose a franchise that’s right for you.
